Point of Sale

Setting up your first POS session

Open a POS session, ring up sales, and close your till — all from a browser on any tablet or laptop.

Oshop247 POS turns any laptop, iPad, or Android tablet into a point of sale. It shares the same product catalog and inventory as your online store, so you never sell an item twice because the website still showed stock.

No dedicated POS hardware is required to get started.

Who can use POS

Staff need the access POS and open POS session permissions. Owners and managers typically have these by default. Cashiers can be limited to POS-only access via Staff & Roles.

Step 1 — Open POS

  1. From the admin sidebar, click Point of Sale (or POS)
  2. If your plan includes multiple branches, select the branch where you are selling today
  3. If you already have an open session, you will be prompted to resume or close it first

Step 2 — Start a session

  1. Click Open session (or equivalent on the POS home screen)
  2. Enter your opening float — the cash already in the drawer before the first sale
  3. Confirm to start the session

Only one open session per cashier register flow is allowed. Each session tracks who opened it and when.

Step 3 — Add products to the cart

You can add items by:

  • Search — type product name or SKU
  • Barcode scan — on plans with barcode support, scan into the search field
  • Browse categories — tap products on touch screens

Adjust quantities, remove lines, and apply discounts from the cart panel before taking payment.

Step 4 — Take payment

Select the payment type your customer used:

  • Cash — record cash received; change is calculated automatically
  • Card — record card payment (use your physical terminal separately if needed)
  • Transfer — record bank transfer payments taken at the counter

Complete the sale to generate a receipt. Print or share digitally depending on your setup.

Stock deducts immediately — your online storefront reflects the new quantity.

Step 5 — Hold orders (optional)

If a customer steps away mid-sale, use Hold to park the cart and serve the next person. Recall held orders when the customer returns.

Step 6 — Close the session at end of day

  1. From POS, choose Close session
  2. Count physical cash in the drawer
  3. Enter the actual cash counted
  4. Review expected vs actual totals (variance)
  5. Confirm close

Closing is important for accountability. Unclosed sessions trigger admin alerts and make day-end reports unreliable.

Best practices

  • Each cashier uses their own staff login
  • Close sessions every business day
  • Reconcile variance notes in a notebook if cash is consistently short
  • Do not record sales outside POS while a session is open
POS is most valuable when every in-store sale flows through it — that is how online and offline inventory stay aligned.
