Oshop247 POS: Run In-Store Sales Without a Dedicated POS Machine
No expensive hardware required — turn any tablet or laptop into a full point of sale that syncs inventory with your online store.
Traditional POS machines cost hundreds of thousands of naira, require proprietary paper, and often do not talk to your website. For many Nigerian SMEs — boutiques, phone shops, pharmacies, mini-marts — that is money better spent on stock.
Oshop247 POS runs in your browser. Any laptop, iPad, or Android tablet with internet becomes a till that shares inventory, products, and reporting with your online store.
Who POS is for
- Retail shops with walk-in customers
- Businesses selling online and in person
- Multi-cashier stores that need session tracking
- Brands that want one product catalog everywhere
If you only sell online with no physical counter, you can skip POS. If customers pay you face-to-face, POS saves hours of manual reconciliation.
Hardware you already own
Minimum: tablet or laptop + stable internet (4G backup recommended).
Nice to have:
- USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner (Growth plan and above on eligible plans)
- Receipt printer compatible with browser printing
- Cash drawer (optional — track cash manually in session close)
No vendor lock-in. Upgrade hardware when volume justifies it.
Starting a POS session
- From admin, open POS
- Select your branch if you operate multiple locations
- Enter opening float (cash in drawer at start of shift)
- Session opens — cart is ready
Each cashier should use their own staff login so you know who sold what. Permissions control who can void sales or apply discounts.
Ringing up sales
Add items by:
- Searching product name or SKU
- Scanning barcodes (if enabled)
- Browsing categories on touch screens
Apply quantities, variants, and line discounts as needed. Accept cash, card (recorded as card payment type), or transfer depending on how the customer pays. Oshop247 generates a receipt you can print or share digitally.
Every completed sale reduces online-visible stock immediately — your website will not show items you just sold at the counter.
Holding and retrieving orders
Busy shop floor? Hold a cart while the customer fetches cash, then recall it without re-scanning. Useful in markets and high-footfall boutiques.
Closing the session (end of day)
Never skip close-out. At shift end:
- Navigate to Close session
- Count actual cash in drawer
- Enter counted amount — system shows expected vs actual (variance)
- Review card and transfer totals
- Confirm close
Variance does not always mean theft — wrong change, unrecorded petty cash, or miscounted notes happen. Track patterns over time.
Online + POS in one system
The real power is unified catalog and inventory. Change a price in admin and both channels update. Receive stock and both channels see it. Run promotions knowing stock limits apply everywhere.
Multi-branch operations
If you have shops in different cities, assign staff and POS sessions per branch. Inventory can be tracked per location so Ikeja staff do not sell Abuja stock by mistake.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sharing one login across all cashiers — you lose accountability
- Leaving sessions open overnight — triggers admin alerts and blurs reports
- Not matching opening float with previous close
- Manual "offline notebook" sales alongside POS — defeats the purpose
POS is not about fancy hardware. It is about knowing what you sold, who sold it, and what is left on the shelf — in real time.
