Importing products via CSV

Adding products one by one works for new stores, but established retailers often have hundreds of SKUs in Excel already. Oshop247 CSV import lets you upload catalog data in bulk on plans with the bulk import feature.

Where to find import

1. Go to Products in the admin sidebar
2. On the products list page, locate the Import section (requires bulk import on your plan)
3. Click Download template to get the official CSV format

Prepare your spreadsheet

Each row usually represents one product or variant. Common columns include:

• Name — customer-facing product title
• SKU — unique stock-keeping unit (critical for updates)
• Price — numbers only, no ₦ symbol
• Stock quantity — integer count
• Category — text name; created automatically if missing
• Description — optional HTML or plain text
• Status — active/draft as supported by template

Tips for clean imports:

• Remove duplicate SKUs before upload
• Use consistent category spelling ("Men's Shoes" not "mens shoes" and "Men Shoes" mixed)
• Save as UTF-8 CSV if product names include special characters
• Start with 20 rows to test before importing 2,000

Upload and validate

1. Choose your CSV file in the import form
2. Submit and wait for validation
3. Review any error rows — fix in Excel and re-upload if needed
4. Confirm import when preview looks correct

Validation errors often come from missing required fields, invalid prices, or duplicate SKUs.

After import — quality check

1. Sort products by recently added
2. Spot-check titles, prices, and stock counts
3. Add product images manually (or via URLs if your template supports image columns on your plan)
4. Open one product on the storefront to verify display

Updating existing products

Re-import with the same SKU to update price and quantity rather than creating duplicates. Check import options for "update existing" behaviour if shown.

For small stock adjustments day-to-day, use Inventory or inline edits instead of full re-import.

Inventory import

Separate from product catalog import, Inventory may offer stock-only CSV updates for quantity changes without touching product titles. Use the right tool: catalog import for new products, inventory import for stock counts only.

When not to use CSV

• Highly variant fashion with size/colour matrix — consider adding a parent product first, then variants in admin
• Products needing unique per-item photos — import skeleton, add media after

Your SKU is the anchor. Consistent SKUs make imports, POS search, and reports reliable for years.
